CINZ Board

The board of Conventions & Incentives New Zealand consists of the CEO and nine members who appoint an independent chairperson. Board members are elected at the AGM and their tenure is for two years. Board members from the Silver, Gold and Platinum membership categories are elected by category members on a one vote per member basis.

Sue Sullivan is the CEO of CINZ, a membership organisation focused on marketing activities that deliver commercial opportunities to its Members. CINZ own and manage MEETINGS, the largest Business Events trade show in NZ bringing together Members with international and domestic buyers over two days in Auckland. With offices in Sydney and Auckland, CINZ takes a lead role in connecting the industry, leveraging relationships and identifying new business.

Sue has over 23 years’ experience in the Tourism Industry. She has worked extensively in market and product development in the core traditional markets of Australia, North America, Europe and the UK. With changing market dynamics Sue has focused over the last years on South East Asia and China and the considerable opportunities within tourism to the Free Independent Traveller, and Group market. She has worked in sales, marketing and operations both in NZ and Australia. Sue is currently a Board Member of Destinations Great Lake Taupo.

Bjoern Spreitzer

Bjoern Spreitzer heads up Tourism New Zealand’s Business Events team with staff in Shanghai, Los Angeles, Singapore, Sydney, Wellington and Auckland. Before moving to New Zealand three years ago, Bjoern held several roles within Tourism New Zealand in its London Office developing continental European markets.

Jenny Simpson is the Tourism Partnership Manager at Air New Zealand within Air New Zealand’s Marketing team.

Jenny has extensive experience in marketing and tourism and has worked in marketing and management roles in New Zealand, Australia and Europe.

After joining Air New Zealand to manage the airline’s participation in Star Alliance, subsequent roles Jenny has held include Sponsorship Manager and International Marketing Manager.

In her current role, Jenny manages Air New Zealand’s relationships with other tourism industry organisations and works with the airline’s offshore teams on activity to grow demand for travel to New Zealand, including conferences and incentives.

Tony is a passionate Kiwi who loves New Zealand, New Zealand organisations and Kiwis to succeed. An international career in brand, digital, data and experiential marketing and a strong strategic and leadership skill-set allows him to contribute actively to a range of industry challenges and issues. As CEO of The Orange Group, including Orange Exchange, the Group’s PCO/DMC, Tony is directly involved in the MICE New Zealand industry.

From Nelson, Tony studied Economics, Management, Marketing and Organisational Psychology at Otago and Auckland Universities before working in advertising and marketing agencies in New Zealand, Australia and across Asia Pacific. Returning to New Zealand in 2008, Tony has since launched a successful digital agency, worked with a number of New Zealand and international brands and joined The Orange Group as CEO in 2012 to lead its expansion.

Gillian Officer has been involved in the Business Events Industry in New Zealand over the past 20 years, primarily working within the Venues sector. Undertaking strategic leadership positions for SkyCity, The Wellington Convention Centre, and The Edge – Auckland Convention Centre; she is currently Director of Sales for SkyCity Convention Centre. Gillian holds qualifications in Hotel & Catering Management and more recently has gained the National Diploma in Tourism Conventions and Incentives. She represents the Venue Industry on the EEAA (NZ Chapter) Board, is a member of VMA, and manages partner relationships with ICCA, AIPC, and of course, CINZ. She has strong business relationships with meeting sector suppliers, bureau, associations, and meeting management companies. Gillian has a longstanding commitment to promoting a successful New Zealand Meetings Industry.
Alison Smith

Alison has been involved in tourism and hospitality her whole working life and for the past 16 years has held the position of Director of Sales, Conference & Incentives, New Zealand and Australia selling on and off shore business for Millennium Hotels and Resorts. Prior to working in sales, Alison was at the coal face and in management in hotel operations. Alison is well known throughout the industry both nationally and internationally. She has strong business relationships with the New Zealand Tourism Board, regional bureaus, associations, PCO’s, and event and meeting management companies. Alison’s industry experience and sales skills have been an asset during the 11 years she has served as a Platinum member on the CINZ Board. Alison has enjoyed seeing the changes and growth in Business Tourism over the years and being actively involved in the strategic development of the industry.

Simon White has been employed with Rydges Hotels and Resorts since 2001 where he has held General Manager positions in New Zealand and Australia. Simon was on the CINZ Board in his first tenure in New Zealand and again since he returned to New Zealand 5 years later. Simon’s core area of Hotel Management combines best practices, sales and marketing, optimising efficiencies and business process improvement which benefit directly organisations looking to develop and enhance opportunities.

Rhonda Beasley is the General Manager for ForumPoint2 Ltd, a well-respected and established PCO Company. Prior to joining ForumPoint2 Rhonda worked as an accountant and has also owned several small businesses which has given her an appreciation of the challenges and rewards involved in SME’s.

Rhonda has completed governance training through the Institute of Directors. In previous Board roles her focus was on the strategic direction of the organisation, its financial stability, risk management, and ensuring that a Board operates effectively to add value to an organisation. Rhonda is a CPA qualified accountant and also holds a Science Degree.

Dominique, CEO Alexandra Park (a harness racing and function centre in the heart of Epsom), has held senior management positions in all facets of the tourism industry (inbound, hotels, airlines, restaurants and multifunctional venue management). She formulated the MICE strategy for Christchurch City Council and successfully lobbied for the Christchurch Convention Bureau and Convention Centre. She is Managing Director, Dowding & Associates Ltd., a parent company to subsidiaries in: investment, new media, technology, property development, entertainment and consultancy. She is a former director of Vbase (9 years) and is currently a director of several companies.
Kiri Goulter

Kiri is an accomplished senior executive with extensive experience in destination marketing and management, strategic planning and tourism product development.

Kiri moved to the Waikato in 2009 to lead the re-establishment of Hamilton & Waikato Tourism which was officially launched in July 2011. Kiri has previously chaired the Explore Central North Island group of 8 RTOs and is currently a trustee of Regional Tourism Organisations of New Zealand (RTONZ).

Prior to her role in the Waikato, Kiri worked at Tourism New Zealand as Development Manager, and in Northland where she managed a $3.5m NZTE and industry funded project to build the capability of the region’s tourism sector.

Kiri holds a graduate Diploma in Economic Development and was a finalist in the 2013 NZ Women of Influence Awards for her contribution to tourism marketing and development at a local/regional level.

Denise Siviter

Denise has extensive knowledge and experience in the MICE markets with over 25 years in the industry including Business Development Management in the Hotel sector, Tourism Operation sector and Regional Tourism Organisations.

Denise currently holds the role of Trade, Conference and Incentive Manager and heads up the Convention Bureau for the Bay of Plenty, her focus being to assist operators in the development of the region within these markets.

Previous to moving to the Bay of Plenty, Denise was the Convention Bureau Manager with Destination Rotorua Marketing from 2009 until 2012 with some of her key achievements being the development of the Australian market for the region, successful preparation and hosting of MEETINGS 2011 Trade Show within a 12 week lead-in following the Christchurch earthquake, successful preparing, bidding and winning of International Congresses for the region in conjunction with Tourism New Zealand.
Georgina Torrington

With over 20 years’ experience in the hospitality and tourism industry, Georgina has just commenced a new role with long time CINZ Silver Member – Continental, as the Sales and Marketing Manager.

Georgina’s experience ranges from small, owner operated, to large multi-national organisations; from large independent venues to hotels; and being at the coal face of events from both an operational and sales perspective. Having run her own business, offering consultancy services for a couple of years before the big move South in 2013, Georgina is a champion of SME and Regional NZ membership.

In her down time Georgina can usually be found stalking game in the hills, stretching out on a yoga mat, gardening in her two acre orchard and veggie patch, and always with her two faithful sidekicks Blade and Kate, and long suffering husband Andrew.
